A Triathlon is an ancient Greek word that refers to an athletic event made up of three contests. In contemporary
usage, the name triathlon is mostly applied to a race consisting of a combination of swimming, cycling and
running, in that order. In most modern triathlons, these events are placed back-to-back in immediate sequence
and a competitor's official time includes the time required to "transition" between the individual legs of
the race,
including any time necessary for changing clothes and shoes. As a result, proficiency in swimming,
running, and cycling alone is not sufficient to guarantee a triathlete a competitive time: trained
triathletes have learned to race each stage in a way that preserves their energy and endurance for subsequent
stages.
What is a triathlon?
A Triathlon may sound easy enough since most people can run, swim and cycle, however extensive fitness training
of some degree is recommended before participating. These three disciplined events; swimming, cycling and running,
are not often short stretches. The swimming portion can range from 750 to 3800 meters, a bike portion from
20 to 180 kilometers and a run of 5 to 42 kilometers (based on Sprint and Ironman Competitions).
If you break up the triathlon into the three sports components, it will enable you to train better, harder
and much wiser then if you choose to concentrate on just one of them. Training in multi sports allows you to
develop both muscle toning and high levels of cardio vascular.
Rules of a Triathlon
You can easily achieve this by having different training sessions enabling you to have a great overall workout,
without over training one discipline or getting sore muscles that could result in an injury and bad performance.
Finding a good facility like
Seattle fitness centers
will help you train equally in all three aspects of triathlons and allow for better outcome and hopefully
better results. Training involves a lot of time, energy and discipline and the rewards are not often felt in the
short run, so remember when you start that things will continue to get better as time goes on.
